Penn State named junior men's gymnast Casey Sandy and women's track and field athlete Shana Cox its student-athletes of the year on Tuesday.
Cox defended her award, while Sandy won the first of his career.
Sandy, the Big Ten gymnast of the year, led the Nittany Lions to their second Big Ten championship and won the NCAA all-around title this year.
Cox graduates as an 11-time All-American and the only Penn State female athlete to win two national championships in the same year after she won the 400-meter sprint and was on the winning 1,600-meter relay team at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships. Cox won 12 Big Ten titles during her career.
