Penn State closer selected in MLB draft

Drew O'Neil was drafted for the second consecutive year in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

The Penn State closer who was drafted in the eighth round by the Cincinnati Reds last year was selected by the Chicago White Sox with their fourth round pick (120th overall).

O'Neil can still elect to return to Penn State as he still has one year of eligibility left, but all indications are that O'Neil will sign with the White Sox.

The right-hander graduated this spring with a degree in economics.

He becomes the third highest draft pick out of Penn State behind Nate Bump, a 1998 first round pick, and Mitch Lukevics, who was a 1975 second round pick by the White Sox.
