Despite what was written in an e-mail about the 2008 student football ticket allocation, students can only purchase 2008 football season tickets during one sale period.
Although the e-mail, sent Thursday night, suggests upperclassmen will have multiple opportunities to purchase tickets, that is not the case, Greg Myford, associate director of marketing and communication, said Friday.
The e-mail stated students with "27.1 credits or more at the completion of Spring '08 semester" will be eligible to purchase tickets during the sophomore purchasing period, which starts at 7 a.m. June 18. The e-mail also stated the purchasing period for juniors, starting at 7 a.m. June 17, will include students with "59.1 credits or more at the completion of Spring '08 semester," whereas seniors with "91.1 credits or more at the completion of Spring '08 semester" are eligible at 7 a.m. on June 16.
Myford said class standing is based on a range of credits. Anyone who has less than 27.1 credits is considered a freshman, a student with 27.1-59 credits is considered a sophomore, a student with 59.1-91 credits is considered a junior and any student with 91.1 credits or more is considered a senior, Myford said.
"[The sale is] not inclusive of the classes below. It's only the range from class to class," Myford said. "What'll happen is students will only be eligible for one sale, based on the credits they have. If a senior doesn't get tickets on the day of the senior sale and tries to log in and get tickets the next day, they won't be able to log in."
Myford said there are no plans to send out an e-mail clarifying who is eligible for each sale, but the ticket information on GoPSUSports.com will be changed to reflect the fact that each sale will be available to students with a range of credits.
The e-mail sent Thursday also states the sale for freshmen will begin at 8 p.m. on June 19, while all other sales will begin at 7 a.m. on their respective days. Myford said the freshman sale will began later "to best accommodate all of the incoming freshmen that have to go through FTCAP [First-Year Testing, Counseling and Advising Program] that day."
Myford said he has not received feedback about the ticket allocation system.
"I've received one e-mail from a student, and frankly, it wasn't about the process. They were looking for where instructions were posted on the Web site," he said.
Myford added instructions for registering for the ticket sale and purchasing tickets will be available on the ticket page at GoPSUSports.com until the end of the sale.
Myford also said he doesn't know if everyone has received the e-mail yet because the university, not the athletic department, sends out the e-mail. He said the database is built to include all students who are eligible for the ticket sale, and that includes about 80,000 students from University Park and commonwealth campuses.
