Joe Paterno was treated for dehydration and released from Mount Nittany Medical Center today, according to a Penn State press release issued Thursday evening.
Penn State Sports Information Director Jeff Nelson said the 81-year-old coach was taken to the hospital by ambulance this morning.
Paterno traveled to Philadelphia and Chicago during the past week and still plans to make a scheduled trip to Texas tomorrow for a dinner with University of Texas football coach Mack Brown, according to the release.
Paterno had battled a severe flu in January that kept him out of commission for almost three weeks. He is also a year and a half removed from suffering a broken leg during a collision on the sidelines against Wisconsin.
Paterno has been busy of late, helping the Nittany Lions land five recruits during the past week, including a pair of offensive linemen who committed Thursday morning.
Eric Shrive, a 6-foor-7, 300-pound offensive tackle from West Scranton, Pa. High School, is rated as a five-star prospect by Rivals.com. The Web site also rates him as the nation's third-best tackle. He chose Penn State over Notre Dame, Illinois, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
