Correction appended

Joe Paterno is in the hospital undergoing tests and being treated for dehydration, a Penn State team spokesman said Thursday.

Sports Information Director Jeff Nelson said the 81-year-old coach was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center by ambulance Thursday morning.

Paterno still plans to make a scheduled trip Friday to Texas for a dinner with University of Texas football coach Mack Brown, Nelson said.

An official statement from the athletic department is expected to be released around 4 p.m.
