Police investigating theft of blue jeans

Penn State Police are investigating a theft incident that occurred in the basement laundry room in Atherton Hall Wednesday morning between 12:15 and 1:20 a.m. Police said the unknown person removed eight to 10 pairs of blue jeans from a dryer. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Penn State Police at 814-863-1111.

Man charged for violating abuse order

The State College Police Department filed charges Tuesday against a man accused of firing a gun into the ground after threatening to kill himself last Sunday.

Shawn A. Houser, of 576 Mobile Ave., also violated a protection from abuse order against his wife, police said.

Police found an assault rifle and a Smith and Wesson revolver inside Houser's residence.

Houser was charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor and violation of a protection from abuse order. He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Justice Leslie Dutchcot and placed in the Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 straight bail.

Special Olympics seeking volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the Special Olympics, which will be held at Penn State beginning with opening ceremonies June 5. Buses will head home June 8. Volunteers are needed to serve as competition officials, bowling lane monitors, athlete escorts, assistants for athlete evaluators, award presenters, making beds and in various other ways, according to a press release about the event.
