Fraternity makes national conference

Last weekend, 11 members of Phi Beta Lambda, a professional co-ed business fraternity, attended Pennsylvania Phi Beta Lambda's State Leadership Conference.

The conference is an annual event during which Phi Beta Lambda members compete in various professional events and tests, as well as attend lectures and professional development.

This year was the Penn State chapter's first year attending. The Penn State organization placed in eight of the nine events it competed in. In addition, there were three first-place winners and three second-place winners from Penn State.

The six individuals who placed will attend Phi Beta Lambda's national leadership conference in Atlanta at the end of June, Phi Beta Lamba member Michael Markle wrote in an e-mail.

Faculty Staff Club to cease operation

The Faculty Staff Club, which "sought to sponsor activities and opportunities to promote collegiality, thoughtful discourse and a sense of community" among Penn State faculty for nearly 16 years, will cease operation on June 30, according to a statement released on Penn State Live, live.psu.edu.

The heavily dues-based group experienced a surge in membership after its formation, but it has thinned in recent years. In 2002, the club had 770 members, but there are 320 members currently, according to Live.

The group's events prior to June 30 will not be affected by the club's collapse, according to Live.

A full refund will be provided to members who paid dues between Jan. 1 and April 2. These members should complete a refund request form available at the id+ Office, 103 HUB-Robeson Center, by June 30.
