University gaffes to blame for mass public urination

The only disorderly thing I saw around the stadium last weekend ("Weekend sees increase in local crime, accidents," April 21) was a tailgate party with a few hundred students who decided to trash their own lawn furniture. Yet university police did nothing about that -- instead, they were citing people for relieving themselves in the woods surrounding the stadium. Clearly the university was not prepared for such a large turnout, despite the fact that the 70,000-plus people who attended last year's game broke the previous attendance record.

Most of the people going in the woods were not in public view, nor were they destroying or disrespecting property. Punishing fans for choosing not to hold it because of the university's poor planning is like blaming our defense for the way our offense played -- it's not their fault.
