One day after a Penn State student was hit by a Handy Delivery Inc. taxi, another pedestrian sustained minor injuries after being struck by a different taxi from the same company.
Police said Heather McMahon, 20, who was visiting a friend at Penn State, was walking diagonally across South Garner Street when she was struck by Handy Delivery driver Jon St. Clair, who was traveling north along South Garner Street at about 2 a.m. Saturday.
"I was walking across the street, and a taxi just hit me," McMahon said. "They just railed me. Point blank. They didn't even hit the brakes or anything."
St. Clair told police he saw McMahon crossing the road and swerved to the left while going about 20 to 25 miles per hour, according to the accident report.
Charges for pedestrian violations are pending against McMahon, who was conscious after the crash and suffered a laceration to her chin. She was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center after the accident, where she was treated and released.
Neither McMahon nor St. Clair were under the influence of alcohol, police said.
This was the second incident involving a Handy Delivery Inc. taxi in two days.
Penn State student Stephen Negrotti, 21, of Berwyn, was released from the hospital Friday afternoon after being treated for head injuries he incurred when, police said, he ran in front of a taxi while under the influence of alcohol.
Police said Justin Strickland, 28, of Port Matilda, was driving westbound on College Avenue when Negrotti who was running northbound on Pugh Street, ran into his vehicle.
Strickland said he didn't see Negrotti until he had struck him, according to the accident report. Alcohol was not a factor in Strickland's actions, police said.
