Coach, take responsibility for your players' behavior

I always took pride in Penn State football growing up and do even more so as an alum. When I would hear and read about all the legal problems at schools like Miami and Oklahoma, who had won many championships but seemed to be overshadowed by police reports, it made me proud to say that PSU had character not only on the field, but off as well. Now it's safe to say we have joined that group.

Penn Staters can no longer say that the football team's character is unmatched. Coaches obviously can't babysit their players, but they are responsible for creating and maintaining an environment that not only puts out a winning program but responsible, law-abiding citizens as well. We're only average in the win column and becoming well below average in the citizen department.

It's time those responsible for making decisions about the coaching staff start making them. Unfortunately, as long as generating revenue and protecting a legend is their only concern, the once proud and elite football program will continue to decline.
