UPUA should be applauded for its efforts to combat scalping. But wouldn't their efforts be better spent on trying to increase the overall allotment of student tickets? It is my understanding that students presently receive approximately 23,000 tickets, less than 25 percent of the overall capacity of Beaver Stadium. Shouldn't the students have a larger presence at the football games? Remember, this is a school team representing the Penn State students. They are not a team representing the alumni. They are not a team representing major corporations.
I understand that money is the controlling interest here, and that football revenue supports the budget for all of Penn State's athletic teams. But it's very disappointing that a major university like Penn State effectively excludes so many students from participating in the college football experience, not because of the size of the facility, but over love of the almighty dollar. Anything that could be done to increase the percentage of tickets allotted to the students would be a step in the right direction.
