Obama speech draws about 22,000

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., addressed a crowd of about 22,000 on front of the steps of Old Main on Sunday afternoon.

During his speech, Obama emphasized bringing change to the politics in Washington.

"Change doesn't happen from the top down, it happens from the bottom up," Obama said to a sea of people, some of whom held up a giant sign that read, "Obamaville."

"There's a cynicism in Washington that's constantly being fed to the American people," he continued, often stopping to pause for bursts of loud applause from the crowd throughout the speech.

The line to attend the "Road to Change" rally stretched past the Pattee and Paterno libraries when Obama arrived at 12:25 p.m.

He was introduced by Penn State cornerback Lydell Sargeant and Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa. around 1:45 p.m.
