The University Park Allocation Commission (UPAC) has filled only one of its eight undergraduate positions after yesterday's election because only one student ran in the election.
Amy Stauffer (junior-agricultural science), the only candidate, was elected to the committee. The remaining seven positions will be decided by write-in votes, said Greg Core (senior-nuclear engineering), UPAC student relations team chair. Those results were not available as of press time yesterday. The results will be released today, Core wrote in an e-mail.
According to UPAC's Web site, http://upac.weebly.com/, UPAC "is a student-run board of 35 members who determine how to best distribute a portion of the Penn State student activity fee."
The student activity fee for every University Park student is $68 per semester.
The Association of Residence Hall Students (ARHS) also announced its election results last night.
Eleven students ran for 35 positions. Each residential section of campus has a president, two vice presidents, a secretary, a treasurer and two representatives.
Kelley Costello (junior-communication arts and sciences), executive vice president of ARHS, said 505 votes were counted, exceeding last year's total by roughly 200 votes.
Caitlin Quattrocchi (sophomore-division of undergraduate studies) and Evan Smith (sophomore-marketing), a joint ticket, were elected president and vice president of North Halls, respectively.
Quattrocchi beat Andrew Koontz (freshman-art history and French) for the only contested position.
Andrew Karasik (freshman-political science) was elected North Halls executive vice president.
Mohamed Saeed Al Qassimi (freshman-liberal arts) was elected Pollock Halls president.
South Halls elected Bruce Chang (sophomore-division of undergraduate studies) as president, Arjun Plakkat (freshman-engineering) as administrative vice president, Esteban Luna (freshman-science) as executive vice president and Brent Burkett (freshman-international politics) as treasurer. West Halls elected David Schweitzer (junior-health and human development) as president and Bradley Stamm (sophomore-meterology) as executive vice president. East Halls and Eastview did not elect any positions. Remaining positions will be filled by internal elections in the fall, Costello said.
