New filing system to debut in July

Information Technology Services (ITS) is inviting members of the Penn State community to participate in testing its new file system that is set to debut in July. The system, which is supposed to be faster and more stable than its predecessor, still uses the Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS).

Students will still have space for personal Web sites, blogging capabilities, file storage, secure file transfer and space for organizations and courses. ITS is strongly encouraging students to participate in testing the beta version so that the transition to it next fall will be easier. To subscribe, send an e-mail from your preferred e-mail address to L-PASSBETA-subscribe-request@lists.psu.edu.

University Libraries announce changes

Penn State patrons can now check out more items at university libraries. Undergraduates can borrow 200 items; faculty, graduate students and staff can borrow 500 items; and alumni and Pennsylvania residents can borrow 100 items. Also, additional no-smoking signs have been installed outside Pattee and Paterno libraries in an effort to prevent smoke from being drawn into the buildings through air intakes.

Additionally, University Libraries have announced that Schreyer Business Library Head Gary White has won the 2008 Gale Cengage Learning Award for Excellence in Business Librarianship. The award, administered by associations that included a division of the American Library Association, is given to an individual for distinguished activities in the field of business librarianship. White will receive $3,000 donated by Gale Cengage Learning. The award will be presented at the RUSA Awards Ceremony on June 30 in Anaheim, Calif.
