Lionettes grant wishes to kids

Cameras flashed at the White Building on Saturday when members of the Penn State Lionettes dance team danced away the afternoon with several Thon children.

As a part of the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon "Wish Hour," kids could choose to participate in one of several activities that were in locations other than the Bryce Jordan Center (BJC). Wishes included touring the Lasch Football Building with members of the football team and hanging out at the barn with members of the equestrian team.

Lionettes Ashley Herbick, Karley Chism, Allie Scott and Megan Highfill took the kids through some stretches and warm-up moves such as skipping, frog leaping and sliding before teaching them a short dance routine to a song from "High School Musical 2."

The Lionettes and the kids practiced the dance a few times before taking a short break for the Lionettes to give out posters, T-shirts and other gifts.

The Lionettes had a short autograph session, then returned to the floor to perform the whole routine for the kids' families, this time with sparkly silver pom-poms. At the end, everyone struck a pose for a photo op.

"I loved the kids," Herbick said. "They were so into it."
