Four jailed after fight

More than 200 people were involved in a disturbance on Pugh Street.

Police from three jurisdictions responded to a major disturbance early yesterday morning on Pugh Street, during which four people were arrested among a crowd of more than 200 people.

The disturbance began at about 2 a.m. when State College Police Cpl. William Muse observed a man fighting with bar staff at Tony's Big Easy, 129 1/2 S. Pugh St.

Police removed the man, Danylo O. Kulczycky of Cazenovia, N.Y., from the bar. Kulczycky then sat on a concrete wall outside the Pugh Street parking garage while Muse attempted to investigate the incident.

As Kulczycky sat on the wall, police said another man who was visibly intoxicated and identified himself as a friend of Kulczycky's began to interfere with the investigation of the fight. David J. Orlando, also of Cazenovia, was asked to leave more than four times before he was handcuffed, taken into custody and placed in the back of a police cruiser, police said.

At about 2:25 a.m., police said a group of people including brothers Olakunle and Oladayo Orogbemi, both of 157 W. Prospect Ave., instigated another disturbance on Pugh Street as officers were arresting Orlando. According to court documents, Oladayo Orogbemi began to yell at the police officer, "Why are you arresting those guys, you racist f**ker?"

Olakunle Orogbemi and the rest of the group tried to drag Oladayo Orogbemi away, but he continued to yell and scream at the officer, according to court documents.

Also according to court documents, the brothers resisted arrest and got into a physical altercation with officers. Officers from Ferguson Township and Penn State Police assisted State College police.

At this point, a crowd of more than 200 that had gathered "surged forward and began to scream and yell at the officers," according to court documents.

When the Orogbemi brothers were handcuffed and taken into custody, officers discovered that Kulczycky and Orlando were missing. Officers were able to locate the men at 8:30 yesterday morning at 820 W. Whitehall Road. Orlando no longer had the handcuffs on and a portion of the handcuffs had been "cut into pieces," according to court documents.

Olakunle Orogbemi, 22, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and one summary charge of public drunkenness. His brother, Oladayo Orogbemi, 23, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, one count of resisting arrest and one count of public drunkenness. Both were arraigned before District Judge Leslie Dutchcot and sent to Centre County Prison in lieu of $2,500 and $5,000 straight bail, respectively.

David J. Orlando, 22, is charged with one count of escape and summary charges of disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and criminal mischief. Danylo O. Kulczycky, 22, was charged with one misdemeanor count of obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, hindering apprehension or prosecution and summary counts of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Both were arraigned in front of Dutchcot and sent to Centre County Prison in lieu of $10,000 straight bail each.

The incident was the second to occur on Pugh Street early Sunday morning. Police observed bar staff from LuLu's Nightspot attempting to remove Tianwei Xei, of 804 Stratford Dr., at about 1:20 a.m., according to court documents. Bar staff said Xei intentionally flipped a table over inside the bar, causing the glasses and bottles on the bar to break. Xei, 23, resisted arrest, was pepper-sprayed and still fought, according to court documents. Three officers were required to subdue her.
