UPUA chief of staff struck by vehicle

Ashley Hill, 21, was treated for minor injury and released from Mount Nittany Medical Center after the State College Police Department said student Zachary Valenta, 20, struck her with his vehicle yesterday morning.

Police said Hill was crossing within the marked crosswalk on College Avenue at Hetzel Street. Valenta was turning left onto College Avenue from Hetzel Street at about 10 to 15 miles per hour and said he did not see Hill until it was too late, police said. Hill, the chief of staff for the University Park Undergraduate Association, complained of pain in her left side.

Scirrotto may get plea bargain Feb. 14

Centre County Judge Bradley Lunsford will either accept a plea or will recommend a diversionary rehabilitation program for Penn State safety Anthony Scirrotto on Feb. 14, said Ron McGlaughlin, Scirrotto's attorney.

McGlaughlin plans to meet with Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira today to discuss further details of what will occur at next week's hearing.

Tickets go on sale for Fergie concert

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. today for a performance by Grammy-winning recording artist Fergie, who is set to perform on April 18 at Beaver Stadium as part of the first-ever Gridiron Bash.

Beaver Stadium's first-ever concert will give Penn State students and fans the chance to compete against other major universities to earn $1 million in scholarship funding. The Gridiron Bash activities, which include a two-day carnival, complete with rides and food, are expected to begin outside Beaver Stadium at 6 p.m. April 18, with festivities inside the stadium kicking off at 7 p.m.

Tickets will be $41, Greg Myford, associate athletic director of marketing, wrote in an e-mail. Tickets are available online at www.GoPSUsports.com/tickets, www.gridironbash.com and ticketmaster.com as well as by phone at 814-865-5555 during regular business hours Monday through Friday.

Theatre sells tickets for upcoming acts

Tickets will go on sale tomorrow for two upcoming acts at the State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave.

Nanci Griffith, folk-country singer songwriter, will perform at the theater at 8 p.m. March 21. Griffith won a Grammy in 1994 for Best Contemporary Folk Album for Other Voices, Other Rooms. She has toured with the likes of Judy Collins and Buddy Holly's band The Crickets. Tickets are $37 and can be purchased at the State Theatre box office.

Lotus, an electronica rock band from Philadelphia, will perform at the State Theatre at 8 p.m. March 27. In the past, the band performed at the Crowbar, now the Cell Block, 420 E. College Ave., in 2004. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the State Theatre box office.

n Criminal Mischief: The State College Police Department said they responded to a call at 2:26 a.m. yesterday at 140 E. College Ave. after one man ripped up another man's Hillary Clinton book.
