Student athletes compete in pageant

Penn State athletes will compete in the Mr. and Miss Student-Athlete Pageant at 8 tonight in HUB Heritage Hall.

All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, said Linsey Shea, Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) communications captain for Thon.

Shea said athletes will compete in categories like formal and athletic wear, will answer Penn State trivia questions and will perform a dance they are taught earlier in the evening.

Shea added that there will be "special guest judges," including Thon overall chairman Dan Cocco.

Tickets for the event are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Students can purchase tickets in advance on the third floor of the Bank of America Career Services Center.

Austin Scott's hearing postponed

Yesterday's scheduled hearing on the motion to dismiss rape and assault charges against suspended Nittany Lion tailback Austin Scott was postponed indefinitely.

Instead, a status conference was held behind closed doors.

John Karoly, Scott's attorney, filed a motion on Dec. 19 saying the evidence presented is not enough to prove Scott committed the rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and simple assault for which he was charged in October.
