Cornerback's DUI hearing postponed

Nittany Lion backup cornerback Willie Harriott is facing a DUI charge after he was pulled over by the Ferguson Township Police Department early Nov. 11 on North Atherton Street with a blood-alcohol content of .16, double the legal driving limit.

Harriott, 20, of New Haven, Conn., was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday, but it was postponed until Jan. 16.

This the sophomore's second offense of the semester.

On Aug. 17, Harriott and sophomore tight end Andrew Quarless were stopped by Penn State Police and both cited for underage drinking. Harriott's citation states that his blood-alcohol content registered at .15 at that time.

Both Harriott and Quarless missed the first game of the season because of the August offense.

Jeff Nelson, sports information director, said he does not know if any further team action will be taken because of the DUI.

"I don't have any information that would indicate a change in his status as far as the team goes," he said.

Harriott redshirted in 2005 and saw his first action in 2006, playing in Penn State's 47-0 win over Temple.
