Defense seeks evidence in Scott case

An attorney for football player Austin Scott requested Thursday that the Centre County District Attorney's office turn over evidence it plans to use in Scott's rape trial.

Scott, 22, of Allentown, pleaded not guilty on Oct. 17 and was bound over on charges of rape, sexual assault, two counts of aggravated assault and two misdemeanor counts of simple assault.

According to court documents, John Karoly, one of Scott's two attorneys, has asked Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira to hand over the defendant's criminal record, seized possessions and a "written confession," as well as the commonwealth's witness list.

Scott's charges stem from an on-campus incident involving a female student in the early morning of Oct. 5.

A gag order was requested by Centre County Assistant District Attorney Lance Marshall and issued by Centre County Judge Charles Brown on Oct. 23. The order prohibits all parties involved in the case from further public comment.
