Campus Notes

The Department of Geography presents the fall 2007 E. Willard Miller Lecture with Arthur Getis, emeritus professor of geography from the San Diego State University. Getis will present "The Spatial Autocorrelationists: Trends in the Use of Quantitative Methods in Geography" at 6 p.m. today in 112 Walker Building.

Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and director of the W.E.B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research will speak about "African American Lives: Searching for Our Identity" at 7 p.m. tonight in Schwab Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m.; seating begins at 6:30 p.m.

Penn State's Kyle Kastead will speak at 11:15 a.m. today in 101 Althouse Laboratory. Kathleen Postle of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology will host the speech, titled "In-Vivo Insight into the Mechanism and Dynamics of TonB Energy Transduction in Escherichia coli."

The Department of Mathematics will host a seminar at noon today in 114 McAllister Building. Stefan Mueller of the University of Wisconsin will speak.

Penn State's Erin D. Sheets will speak at 12:30 p.m. today in 102 Chemistry Building. Sharon Hammes-Schiffer of the Department of Chemistry will host the event.

The Department of Mathematics will host a seminar at 2:30 p.m. today in 113 McAllister Building. Alexander Razborov of the Institute for Advanced Study will speak about "Inverse Problems in Arithmetic Combinatorics."

Wei-Ting Hwang of the University of Pennsylvania will speak at 4 p.m. today in 201 Thomas Building. The Department of Statistics will host the speech, titled "Estimating Subject-Specific Variance Components with Multivariate Repeated Measurements."

Eva Andrei of Rutgers University will speak at 4 p.m. today in 117 Osmond Laboratory. Moses Chan of the Department of Physics will host the event, titled "Graphite, Graphene and Relativistic Electrons."

The Department of Entomology will host a seminar at 4:15 p.m. today in 112 Forest Resources Building. John Hildebrand of the University of Arizona will speak about "Explorations of a 'Simple' Olfactory System."

Alexander Razborov of the Institute for Advanced Study will speak at 4 p.m. today in 114 McAllister Building. The Department of Mathematics will host the speech, titled "A Product Theorem in Free Groups."
