Spanier impersonator discusses sweatshops

A Graham Spanier impersonator took the floor of the HUB-Robeson Center during lunchtime today to tell students that the "demonstrations, chicanery and troublemaking" of certain student groups "are distracting to both this administration and to you the students."

Aaron Troisi (graduate-crime, law and justice) assumed the identity of the university president. He explained why the university hasn't accepted the Designated Supplier Program (DSP), which United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) and the Student Labor Action Project (SLAP) have encouraged the university to adopt to ensure the rights of apparel factory workers are upheld.

Students yelled "we can't hear you!" and "speak up" while the "president" spoke from his microphone and one amplifier in the middle of a noisy HUB.

The speech lasted for about 10 minutes and Troisi, pretending to be Spanier, said it will be a long time before this issue is resolved.

"It may take years and years and years for an efficient policy to be implemented, but that day will come. And it will come from this administration and its business partners," he said.
