Penn State defeats Temple 31-0

PHILADELPHIA -- Officially, it was an away game, but Penn State felt right at home.

When Temple's Jake Brownell missed a 23-yard field goal to end the Owls' opening drive, the first "We are ... Penn State" chant sounded soon after at Lincoln Financial Field.

After that, Anthony Morelli threw two touchdown passes to Jordan Norwood on the Nittany Lions' first two offensive possessions. Penn State went on to win 31-0 before 69,029 fans, the largest home crowd in Temple football history, though many cheered for the visitors.

In the first half, Temple (3-7, 3-3 MAC) missed the short field goal, had a touchdown pass called back for a holding penalty and dropped a would-be touchdown on a fake field goal. Penn State led at halftime, 17-0.

Neither offense scored in the third quarter, and the Lions (8-3, 4-3 Big Ten) held Temple to 48 yards in the second half to shut out the Owls for the second time in two seasons.

Running back Rodney Kinlaw carried 27 times for 168 yards and went over 1,000 yards for the season on a fourth quarter touchdown run.

Morelli threw one more score to Deon Butler, which gave Penn State a 31-0 lead with nine minutes left in the game. He finished 22 of 33 for 260 yards and three touchdowns. He also had one fumble and an interception.
