Fans 'reflect the spirit' at Homecoming parade

Thousands of alumni, students and fans watched as floats, jugglers and the Nittany Lion made their way along the parade route at Friday night's Homecoming parade.

The parade featured several Penn State figures early on, like university president Graham Spanier who rode on the Lion Ambassadors's float, and this year's Homecoming grand marshall Franco Harris.

The Penn State Alumni Blue Band performed fight songs like "Fight on State."

Later in the parade, various student organizations showed off colorful floats, made of tissue paper and chicken wire. Floats' themes included "Ninja Turtles" and the movie "Dodgeball."

Some fans scoped out their spots early in the day to ensure that they had the best seats.

Nick Klein (senior-finance) waited at Café 210 West, 210 W. College Ave, to save seats for current and graduated members of his fraternity, Phi Gamma Nu.

"The alumni are really good to us," Klein said.

After the Homecoming parade, a pep rally was held in front of Old Main. Christopher Talley and Kimberly Carapucci were crowned Homecoming king and queen.

This year's Homecoming theme is "Reflecting the Spirit."
