SCOTT CHARGED WITH RAPE

Penn State running back Austin Scott has been charged with the rape of a female student in connection with an incident at Nittany Apartments early last Friday, according to a Penn State Police press release.

Scott, 22, of 5204 Nittany Apartments, was arraigned at 1:15 p.m. today before District Judge Ronald Horner on one felony count each of rape and sexual assault and two felony counts of aggravated indecent assault, according to the release.

He is also charged with three misdemeanors -- two counts of indecent assault and one count of simple assault.

He was released on $50,000 unsecured bail, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The alleged victim reported the incident to university police at 4 a.m. last Friday, the day before Penn State's game against Iowa. Scott did not play because of an unspecified team violation, and Paterno said Tuesday he would not play in tomorrow's game against Wisconsin.
