Pillow fights aren't just for sleepovers anymore. They're also for flash mobs outside the HUB.
Today at 1:15 p.m., at least 30 people will meet on Pollock Road in front of the HUB-Robeson Center for a five-minute pillow fight.
Will Lewis, president and founder of the Comedy Night Club, said even though his group is holding the event, anyone can participate. He said students registered in the HUB yesterday
evening and were assigned to one of two teams.
A flash mob, as he described it, is when a "semi-large group of people do a random act for a short period of time, something that brings attention to them and looks crazy -- and they're done as quickly as they come."
Lewis said the two teams will enter the street from opposite sides. One team will "charge" out of the Osmond Lab; the other from the East HUB entrance. The teams will meet in the street, fight it out for about five minutes and will then disperse as if nothing had happened, he said.
He said he did flash mobs in high school and the Comedy Night Club has a few more planned throughout the year, though he's keeping them a secret for now.
Each team will wear different colored T-shirts so team members can be distinguished.
As of press time, the event's entry on Facebook.com had 49 confirmed guests.
David Regiec, vice president of the Comedy Night Club, said if only a few people show up, it will just be one mass, so he hopes there will be enough people to have teams.
"The bigger, the better," he said.
He and Lewis would be the "generals" of the two teams, and Regiec said his strategy is basically to "take out Will."
Drew Stephens (sophomore-information sciences and technology) said he might participate
"Who says, 'hey, pillow fight, HUB, be there,' " he said, laughing.
He said if he does join the pillow fight, he plans on having a bunch of people around him first before attacking.
"Scream a couple 'this is Sparta!' and just run and go for it," he said.
