ESPN will broadcast Saturday's match-up

ESPN or ESPN2 will nationally televise Penn State's Big Ten game at Indiana on Oct. 20. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m., at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.

A determination on whether ESPN or ESPN2 will air the game will be announced no later than Oct. 15.

The contest with the Hoosiers is the ninth announced TV appearance of the season Penn State.

Saturday's Homecoming game with No. 15 Wisconsin will be an ABC regional telecast at 3:30 p.m., with other markets across the nation receiving the game on ESPN.

The Nittany Lions will be making their second appearance of the season on ESPN, which also aired Penn State's 31-10 win over Notre Dame on Sept. 8. Penn State's Oct. 27 game with Ohio State will air on ABC, ESPN or ESPN at 8:00 p.m., from Happy Valley.

ABC televised the Lions' games against Michigan and Iowa, and Penn State has appeared on the Big Ten Network against FIU, Buffalo and Illinois.

Penn State and Indiana will be meeting for the first time since the Lions won 22-18 in 2004 on a dramatic goal line stand in the final minutes.

Penn State lead the all-time series, 10-0.

Lions' striker honored as offensive standout

Sophomore Katie Schoepfer earned her second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor after extending her scoring streak to eight games with an assist at Wisconsin Friday and a goal and an assist at Northwestern Sunday.

Schoepfer started the Nittany Lions' two-win weekend with an assist on an insurance goal by Danielle Toney helping Penn State to the 2-0 victory. On Sunday, Schoepfer had the helper on Aubrey Aden-Buie's second goal of the day, the game-winner, and then scored the third goal in the 3-1 win in Evanston.

Her weekend points pushed Schoepfer's scoring streak to eight-straight games dating back to the game against James Madison on Sept. 14.

PSU's Long praised for defensive effort

Jen Long was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week yesterday. This marks the second straight week that a Penn State player has won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors as goalkeeper Jen Beaumont was last week's honoree. This is the second career weekly Big Ten award for Long, who also was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on October 16 of last season.

Long, who also recorded a pair of assists in Penn State's two wins, helped the Nittany Lion defense record its fourth shutout of the year in Sunday's 2-0 win over Indiana, which was also the second shutout in the last three games. In Sunday's game, Long blocked two Indiana shots off penalty corners to help keep the game scoreless. In last Wednesday's game against No. 20 Syracuse, Long helped the Nittany Lions pitch a first half shutout while building a 3-0 lead in a game in which they would yield just one goal in a 3-1 victory.

Junior hitter named player of the week

Penn State women's volleyball junior outside hitter Nicole Fawcett has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week. It is the fifth career honor for Fawcett and the fifth for the Nittany Lions this year.

Fawcett is the fourth different Lion to earn the honor this year as sophomore outside hitter Megan Hodge, junior middle hitter Christa Harmotto and freshman middle hitter Arielle Wilson are all previous winners.

Behind Fawcett's play, No. 3 Penn State remained tied for first place in the Big Ten with Wisconsin after sweeps of Iowa and No. 11 Minnesota last weekend at Rec Hall. Against the Hawkeyes, Fawcett had 18 kills while hitting .351 and adding five digs.

The next night against the Golden Gophers, Fawcett posted 23 kills on .308 hitting with two service aces and a team-leading five blocks.
