Students involved in fight at HUB
About 10 people were involved in a fight early Sunday morning at Heritage Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center as an Alpha Phi Alpha party drew to a close, Penn State Police said.
At about 1:50 a.m., a visitor reported being hit and suffered a bloody nose, but no one has been cited and the case is being investigated, said Tyrone Parham, university police assistant director.
Local man charged with retail theft
A local man was charged with retail theft, criminal mischief, theft, robbery and harassment for what began as a retail theft at about 11:45 a.m. yesterday at Nittany Mall, 2901 East College Avenue, the State College Police Department said.
Michael P. Ferdinand, 25, of 130 Logan Ave., is accused of stealing $450 worth of merchandise from Macy's Department Store, police said.
The theft was spotted by store security, who attempted to detain him.
However, police said that Ferdinand grabbed the security officer's cell phone to stop him from calling 911 and fled the scene on foot.
Responding State College police officers searched the area and found Ferdinand inside a fenced-in area at Struble Road and East College Avenue.
Ferdinand was taken into custody and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
