Former Nittany Lion football player LaVon Chisley took the stand this afternoon, offering his own account of the June night police say he killed Penn State student Langston Carraway.
When defense attorney Karen Muir quietly asked him at the end of his lengthy testimony if he killed his friend, the 23-year-old firmly replied, "No."
As for a pair of black gloves, similar to one found at the crime scene, sighted in his windbreaker on two occasions -- both before and after the murder -- Chisley said he had bought multiple pairs long ago for use in handling his dogs.
The bloody black glove found at Carraway's Patton Township apartment, which contained his DNA, could have been left there during an earlier visit, he said.
During cross-examination, Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira questioned Chisley about statements he made to police while in New Jersey shortly after the murder.
He asked why Chisley told officers from the Patton Township Police Department that he had spent the night of Carraway's death with Kerry Onaka, a friend, when his testimony today indicated he had instead stayed with former flame Jade Burges-Farrell.
Chisley replied that when police questioned him, he believed they were asking about his whereabouts throughout the evening of Carraway's death: He said he spent a good portion of that Saturday night with Onaka, but did not sleep there. He maintained he told officers he had slept at Burges-Farrell's apartment.
