Just before midnight, a group of about 15 students huddled outside Gate A of Beaver Stadium, laughing and throwing around a football.
But true to university policy, not a single tent or sleeping bag appeared until 12:01 this morning.
The very first people to arrive at the stadium were Jordan Cascino (junior-political science) and Amy Shollenberger (junior-animal science), who showed up at the gate at exactly 10 p.m.
"Being in the front row for every game, which while everyone should have the experience, I find it difficult to let them have that," Cascino said.
This is the third year Cascino and Shollenberger have camped out in Paternoville. While the tradition of camping out before games has been around for many years, the makeshift city that appears before football games was only dubbed "Paternoville" in 2005.
Kyle Heyler (senior-animal science) said that he will "pretty much" be at the stadium until the game begins at 12 p.m. Saturday.
"We have a big group and we take shifts so people don't miss class," he said.
There are at least five people in every group, Tom Boroch (sophomore-meteorology) said.
"So you don't really need to skip class...the people who skip class are choosing to do that," he said.
Many of the Paternoville residents said getting front-row seats for the game was their primary motivation for camping out.
"We want good seats -- basically it boils down to that," Heyler said.
