Penn State hires former Baylor assistant as women's tennis coach

The search for a new head coach for the Penn State women's tennis team has come to an end.

The university hired former Baylor assistant women's tennis coach Dawna Prevette on Tuesday, making her the ninth head coach for the team. Prevette replaces Buffy Baker, who resigned July 17 for personal reasons.

"We are delighted that Dawna will be our new head coach for women's tennis," Associate Athletic Director Sue Delaney- Scheetz said in a press release. "Her breadth of experience, coaching philosophy, energy and enthusiasm made her the ideal choice for this position."

Prevette brings winning experience after her first year as an assistant coach at Baylor University. While there, she guided the team to both the Big 12 regular season and tournament championships. She also assisted the team to a berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen and finished 13 th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association polls.

Before going to Baylor, Prevette was the head coach at North Texas University, her alma mater. While coaching, she held a spot on the Southwest Regional ITA committee and currently holds a position on the NCAA Division I Regional Advisory Committee.

"It is an honor to be named as the head women's tennis coach at Penn State," Prevette said in a press release. "It has been an aspiration of mine to coach at such a special university. I am very excited to help the women's tennis program add to the great athletic tradition at Penn State."

Penn State finished with a 10-13 overall record last year, posting a 3-7 record in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions ended their season with a loss to Northwestern in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Championships.
