Vanilla cream-filled, chocolate frosted or glazed. They are baked fresh, and they are coming soon to downtown State College.
This October, Dunkin' Donuts will open its doors in State College at 200 W. College Ave.
The franchise, which will take the place of what was previously a Sprint store, is currently undergoing renovations and is accepting applications for employment once it opens in the fall.
"It's a terrific opportunity for the community," said Steve Mercurio, general manager of Dunkin' Brand operations for Lehigh Gas & Oil Company.
Mercurio said the State College store will serve the standard Dunkin' Donuts menu, including its brand name coffee and doughnut.
He said the full menu would also feature cookies, bagels, muffins, croissants and specialty coffee and espresso drinks.
Mercurio said he has already noted a high level of interest in the shop from State College residents. He said Dunkin' Donuts is an establishment that appeals not only to college students, but a wide range of people.
"There's no Krispy Kreme here, and the only other real bakery is Panera," Todd Richards (senior-energy business and finance) said.
State College resident Anthony Malizia said a shop dedicated to doughnuts should do well in the community.
"We need a doughnut shop in town," he said.
Jamie Woodring (junior-psychology) said she also thinks Dunkin' Donuts will prosper in downtown State College.
Mercurio added that "all of the demographics fit," and that a new location would be equipped to accept LionCash and ensure that there would be fresh products and a wide variety of choices for Dunkin' customers. State College resident Natasha Petach, a self-proclaimed coffee-lover, said Dunkin' Donuts' status as a well-known chain will make the business successful in State College.
Mercurio said "just being a part of the Penn State and State College community and part of the business community is really exciting."
