Recipients of Carnegie Medal awarded
Matthew Emmerling and Kevin Mahoney, who last year saved students from a burning house on West College Avenue, were named recipients of the Carnegie Medal yesterday for their actions. The award, which is accompanied by a $5,000 grant, is given to those who risk their lives in an attempt to save others. The fire at 700 W. College Ave. destroyed the house of 10 students. Both Emmerling and Mahoney, who were passing the home separately, entered the house after seeing smoke and saved at least three of the residents.
