Recently I became aware of the bashing of the Penn State United Nations by some candidates for your student government ("UPUA candidate offended Penn State United Nations," April 26). I just wanted to take some time to talk about this organization.
As a college graduate, member and president of PSUN for four wonderful years, my time in this organization was truly invaluable. Not only did the experience in PSUN make me a confident and recognized speaker, but it also gave me the knowledge and power to move on into the working world well aware of what was going on around the globe.
I feel that I am very informed when it comes to voting and am confident forming opinions about politicians and their platforms. I would not have been able to be as successful so early in my career if I had not been part of this club.
Since leaving college I have been involved in many local and international philanthropic organizations and wouldn't have been aware of the problems that needed addressed in the world if it wasn't for PSUN.
My best college memories come from this organization because of the skills I acquired, but most importantly because of the strong social and intellectual bond that I shared with the 30 other members. I miss the organization and I am so proud of the current students and the steps they have taken to grow and improve the club.
