Support for Virginia Tech should stretch into Iraq

I am so impressed with the tremendous support that Penn State students have had for the victims and families of the Virginia Tech tragedy. It's powerful to see how the actions of students organizing can have not only local but also far-reaching effects. What saddens me, however, is that the same amount of energy is not poured into other causes like protesting the genocide in Darfur, the still rampant racism in America or the war in Iraq. Did anyone read the article the other day about the Iraq war veteran who spoke on campus?

It was a small piece, but I was horrified to hear that at times our soldiers have received only one meal and two water bottles a day. Why aren't we angry about this, not to mention to the amount of lives lost every single day for the past four years? When is enough enough? And why are the lives of our fellow students more worthy of news coverage, our sympathy and our energy?
