Films selected to play in the Film Festival

The Penn State Student Film Festival will be held at the State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave., Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Bullet Parade will be playing short sets in between viewings of student films. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the State Theatre box office.

Here's a list of the films that won the chance to be shown, the students who produced them and a brief plot synopsis of each.

Chef's Journey - Owen Thomas (junior-film and video)

A glimpse into the journey of a chef who traveled from China and came to State College.

Rubik - Alex Felts (senior-film and video)

An experimental animation depicting the classic toy as it's thrown into the issue of school violence.

 

The Girl in the Garden - Garrett Rhodes (senior-film and video)

According to a press release, this film depicts a "journey through a garden of desire."

Bitter-Sweet Love - Eric Leach (senior-film and video)

A sugar cube couple live with a monotonous relationship. Their marriage fails, and the man resolves to start anew, but the imbalance brought on by his new life destroys their world.

One Hungry Pride - Laura Deutsch (junior-film and video), Kristin Young (junior- film and video)

An insight on the production of ice cream at the Penn State Creamery, as well as the effect the new creamery location has had on students.

Alex's Last Day - Timothy Frisch (senior-film and video) Alex is having trouble killing herself, so she asks her neighbor, Gabe, for a hand. The story follows whether he can change her mind amid her subconscious cry for help.

Different Faces - Jenna Benjamin (senior-film and video)

An experimental short that focuses on the different faces we see each and every day.

 

The Scarlet Letters: LGBT - Caitlin Durante (junior-film and video), Lauren Intindoli (junior-film and video), Aundrea Posey (junior-film and video)

A documentary focusing on the coming out of several Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) students at Penn State and the discrimination they face as a result.

Reflection - Danny Michelson (freshman-film and video)

This experimental film explores self-reflection. The main character walks around campus and in his face people see their true selves.

Touch - John F. McClellan (junior-film and video)

A piece that attempts to show the sensuality between throwing clay used to make pottery on a potter's wheel and the female body. Both are used with an emphasis on the vessel-like qualities of the curves on each example.

 

Ghoul of My Dreams - Stephen Scheboth (junior-film and video)

A young ghoul brings a girl back from the dead much to the chagrin of her former boyfriend.

Repercussions - Morgan James (junior-film and video)

A documentary exploring the alleged drunken driving incident involving Penn State students Anthony Torsell, Richard Smith and Aaron Stidd.

 

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow - James Robinett (senior-film and video)

This is a Christmastime commercial break from hell arriving both four months late and eight months early.

 

Hard Over - Greg Kwoka (junior-film and video)

According to a press release, "A film about depression and its gooey centre."

 

ARTISTS. - Chris Chandler (senior-film and video)

A failing artist steals his own work to create a buzz about himself. His plan is foiled by his artistic rival: a blind, caricature artist, all while the robbery is investigated by a lesbian detective couple.

 

Under the Floorboards - Laura Davies (senior-film and video)

This is the story of Harold Merrill, a once-prolific novelist suffering from writer's block.

In an attempt to recapture his imagination he takes a trip back to his childhood home.

 

Desserted - Gerry Lano (senior-film and video)

According to a press release this film "tells the story of a peanut lost at sea."
