Don't have tickets for Jerry Seinfeld? Don't fret. Instead, check out the alternative that the downtown State Theatre is offering this weekend: the Nobodies of Comedy.

Described as the "funniest comics you've never heard of," according to a recent press release, the five comics that comprise the group promise a good show.

"It's weird, because people may think, 'are these guys real comics?' But some of these guys have been on Comedy Central. That's huge," Joe DeVito, one of the Nobodies, said.

Another Nobody, Michael Somerville, was quick to agree.

"You know, we call it the Nobodies, but everyone's really doing well in terms of the business," he said.

The members of the Nobodies of Comedy switch from tour to tour, but this performance will include DeVito, Somerville, Morgan Murphy, Pete Dominick and James Johann.

The purpose of the Nobodies of Comedy is to give comics who are on their way up a stage, an audience and a chance at stardom, Somerville said.

"I've never heard anything but good things about these guys.

And a lot of these smaller names actually wind up becoming good career comics. Soon, they'll be somebodies," Joe Apfelbaum, State Theatre programming manager, said.

Fans of clean, uncontroversial jokes will delight in Somerville's set.

"I'm a very natural, autobiographical guy. I'm very user-friendly. I like to talk about my family, friends and my dating life.

These are fun things that people can actually relate to. That's what I do. I smile and just let people laugh," Somerville said.

When asked about his style, DeVito said, "I don't smash watermelons or anything. I don't use props. I'm really into jokes."

Somerville and DeVito agreed that they enjoy performing in theatres in an intimate setting as opposed to comedy clubs.

"Doing shows in theatres is really the best.

Everyone is focused, and you don't have to worry about people ordering hot wings while you're doing your show," DeVito said.

The Nobodies have high hopes for the show.

"It'll be a fun show," DeVito said. "Any time you get to hang out with comics is a good time."

Tickets are still available at the State Theatre box office downtown at 130 W. College Ave. as well as online at www.thestatetheatre.org. Tickets for the show are $29.
