'Git-R-Done'
Larry the Cable Guy to perform at the BJC

Collegian Staff Writer

Blue Collar Comedy legend Larry the Cable Guy will return to the Bryce Jordan Center to unleash his own brand of redneck comedy this weekend.

Famous for his "Git-R-Done" catch phrase, Larry specializes in Southern humor, taking a page out of his Blue Collar Comedy Tour co-workers Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White and Bill Engvall.

"Out of all the Blue Collar comedians, Larry is probably one of the most popular," Bernie Punt, director of sales and marketing at the BJC, said. "And he is politically incorrect. He will make fun of everyone equally."

Larry last performed at the BJC in February 2005 to promote his comedy album The Right to Bare Arms. He now returns promoting his newest album, Morning Constitutions.

"He was here about two years ago and got such a great response from not just PSU but all of Central Pa.," Punt said. "He had such a great time here that they wanted to know if there were any openings. Based upon our ticket sales, we can safely say he is still as popular."

Larry's comedy persona is complex and quick, Punt said.

"You have to be paying attention to everything he says. He might be famous for 'Git-R-Done,' but he is so quick, and that's what people don't realize," Punt said. "He has this dry humor and he just keeps going. It's a very fast rhythm, and he is extremely quick with a sharp wit."

Opening for Larry will be Reno Collier. Collier has been on tour, not just with Larry, but with Foxworthy, White and Engvall. He also has his own special on Comedy Central. Collier said he and Larry met at the same comedy club where Collier got his start.

"I use to bartend in a comedy club, and I met him there 10 years ago," Collier said. "We became good buddies, and we'd run into each other and he helped me out along the way."

Collier also had nothing but praise for Larry's comedy style.

"The biggest thing with him is the timing," Collier said. "His timing is perfect. You never go more than 30 seconds without a joke. It's like you don't have time to not be laughing."

Collier said both he and Larry are excited to come back to Penn State.

"We were talking about it the other day actually. Everybody knows about PSU partying. I just wish it was during football season so we could go to a game," Collier said.

As far as what kind of content the audience should expect from the comedians, Collier doesn't sugarcoat anything.

"Everyone's getting ripped on, so if you can laugh at everything then you'll have a good time. If you're staunchy and you can't get over yourself then don't come," Collier said.

For students interested in attending, ticket prices have been cut in half with the student discount, allowing students to save $22.75 on regular admission.

"I think students who have maybe just heard of him will be quite surprised at how much they laugh," Punt said. "Your face is going to hurt from laughing."

Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased online or at the BJC ticket center.
