Increased incidents during Blue-White
State College police said the weekend saw a "significant amount" of public drunkenness, underage drinking, DUI and disorderly conduct offenses.
Sgt. Chris Fishel said police found a number of people sleeping outdoors in places such as bushes or on the sidewalk.
"It's a good thing that the temperature rose, because if not, there would definitely be a concern for hypothermia," Fishel said.
Fishel said individuals are prohibited from sleeping outside if they are endangering themselves or others.
Victims report various Internet scams
State College police are alerting the public about recent complaints from victims of several Internet scams.
Two victims reported receiving an e-mail that asked the recipient to cash a check for a sublet and send the remainder of the balance back to the sender. Another victim received an e-mail, believed to have originated in Russia, that attempted to extort money based on a death threat.
A third scam involves a United Kingdom sweepstakes win. Police are reminding the public to exercise common sense and not cash or deposit checks or money orders from unknown sources. Police also ask that individuals do not respond to the e-mails.
UPUA discusses plan for transition
Three issues were voted on at the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) meeting last night.
UPUA formally outlined a plan for transition from this association to the next, to take place after elections. The plan includes a transitional meeting scheduled for sometime during the last week of classes. It also voted to give out ice cream at the HUB-Robeson Center patio on May 1. The plan outlined says the first 1,000 students will be given free ice cream.
The last thing UPUA passed was an opinion confirming their support of banning smoking in public places.
