Virginia Tech isn't much different from Penn State. It's a land-grant school, the largest in its state, and it's attached to a small town in a rural area. What's more, it prohibits guns on its campus, just like Penn State. But tell that to the guy who went through a VT dorm and classroom on Monday and killed more than 30 people.
The university's rule didn't do much to keep guns out of his hands; it only succeeded in keeping guns out of the hands of his victims.
In fact, in 2005, a VT student with a concealed handgun permit legally took a handgun to class, and yet was disciplined by the university.
Apparently VT's administration prefers to keep their law-abiding students unarmed, so that killers are able to wreck havoc without hindrance. Sounds familiar? It should, because Penn State has the same policy. I'm sick of the "it can't happen here" crap that I hear all around me. It could have happened here just as easily as it did at Virginia Tech.
And because Penn State students are just as defenseless as VT students, the result would have been the same as well.
