Lions sign juco guard in late signing period

Penn State coach Ed DeChellis announced today the signing of standout junior college guard Stanley Pringle to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Nittany Lions.

Pringle was named the 2007 Suncoast Conference Player of the Year and an honorable-mention National Junior College Athletic Association All-American at Pasco-Hernando Community College. Pringle also earned first-team Florida Community College Athletic Association All-State selection and was named first-team all-conference for the second season for PHCC located in New Port Richey, Fla.

Pringle led PHCC and ranked fourth in NJCAA Region 8 averaging 18.9 points per game. He also ranked sixth with 5.5 assists per game and added 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while making 68 threes for the Conquistadors who posted a 19-12 record last season.

Pringle played primarily at the point-guard position for coach Bobby Bowman at PHCC. He was named the 2006 Suncoast Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 16.5 ppg and 3.8 apg in his first season at PHCC as the Quistas went 15-15 and finished third in the Suncoast Conference.

Lions to face Hokies in Big Ten/ACC game

Penn State will face Virginia Tech in the Bryce Jordan Center as part of 2007 Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Match-ups for the ninth annual Challenge, which for the third consecutive year will feature 11 games all televised on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU, were released today.

The Nittany Lions and Hokies will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 28 in University Park in the final game of the 2007 Challenge. The game is scheduled for a 9:30 p.m. tip on ESPN2.

This year's clash of conferences will be played the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 26-28).

The ACC has claimed the Commissioner's Cup winning the Challenge in each of the previous eight seasons.

Penn State will face Virginia Tech for the first time since 1979 and for the fifth time in program history. The Hokies own a 4-0 series lead. Virginia Tech posted a 22-12 mark, third place ACC finish and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
