Another student shows signs of mumps
Penn State University Health Services (UHS) reported yesterday that an on-campus student is showing signs of a probable case of mumps, which is a communicable disease caused by a virus. Most people are vaccinated as children, but the vaccination is not always 100 percent effective. Mumps spreads through direct contact of respiratory secretions or saliva. UHS staff has talked to people in contact with the student, according to a press release.
An off-campus student reported to UHS April 6 with probable mumps symptoms, which include fever, muscle aches, tiredness and loss of appetite, followed by salivary gland swelling. The diagnosis has not been confirmed.
