National Velvet to hit State Theatre

Wegmans will be sponsoring a "Night at the Movies" with two showings of the film National Velvet at the State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave., today at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The 1944 film, based on the novel by Enid Bagnold, tells the story of Velvet Brown, a teenage girl who wins a horse in a raffle. She falls in love with the horse named "Pie" and competes with it in the Grand National Steeplechase. The movie stars Elizabeth Taylor, Mickey Rooney and Angela Lansbury.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children and can be purchased at the State Theatre box office and online.
