Prayer Statement

The Daily Collegian received this prayer statement from a Christian Religious Leader at Virginia Tech regarding yesterday's campus shooting.

Presently our campus as a whole is truly in shock of what has occurred. I believe I speak for most if not all people I know that Virginia Tech has always been and has always felt like as safe a place as any. An event such as the shootings that occurred today would have been un-imaginable before this morning.

Presently, there are 33 dead (including the gunman who took his own life), and 28 others injured: 4 of which are I believe in critical condition. To say the least we are speechless, jaws still dropped, and are distraught over the events of the day. To my knowledge, presently, I know of no people within our movement that were among the dead. I do pray that as the list of casualties comes out that, we will be prepared to know names on that list and that we can be present for those that do know these people.

I do know of a young man within our movement, his name is Clay, was in a classroom that the shooter massacred. He lived by playing dead, but the guy to his left was shot in the shoulder and the girl to his right in the head. He is presently at the hospital; he is greatly shaken up and understandably traumatized by the experience.

There is so much prayer needed now. As I said before, we are still in shock and disbelief over much of the reality of these circumstances. It truly will be in the near future, tomorrow, when the second shoe falls and the grieving and healing will begin. There are so many un-answered questions and confusion that are present. I know for me (being 50 yards from the shootings and hearing shots) it was kind of a reality check. And while I felt no fear, for I know where I am going when I die, I feel great pain and regret for any of those 33 dead (specifically the shooter) that did not know Jesus Christ.

Definitely be praying for...

**The healing and grieving that starts tomorrow.

**Pray for Clay and others that are first hand survivors for their healing mentally and emotionally.

**Pray for all families that will be notified very soon that their son or daughter is either deceased or seriously injured.

**Pray for the Shooter's family and the situation there.

**Pray for Believers here at Tech to seek God's will through this catastrophe. Furthermore that we would be prepared to accept and embrace the healing process as a means to bring God's peace, love and comfort to any who will be hurting.

**Pray that adjustments and safety precautions would be taken, but that stupid law suits and pointing of fingers would not hinder our campus from coming back together and healing as one rather than a torn body.

**Pray that this shocking massacre would spurn us on to share the greatest love story of all time; that we would not withhold the greatest gift EVER from anyone. That we would desire passionately for everyone in our lives to know that gift, and have the chance to accept it. For our time is limited here on earth and we cannot predict the day we will leave it. Regret is painful, but eternal regret is unbearable.

**Overall, pray that God would be glorified through all this. What that looks like we shall see, but prayer that He would be seen and accepted by non-believers through this process.

Thanks so much for your prayer and consideration. We are greatly appreciative and our campus will certainly need it. Life is certainly a precious gift, this is for sure!

In Him,
- Joe Terranova"
