Students reflect on yesterday's events

"We're out in the cornfields, and this just doesn't happen. Teachers who have been here for 20, 30 years said this has never happened."
--- Virginia Tech freshman Libbi Rettew, of Malvern

"I think tomorrow everything is gonna sink in. Thirty-three people were shot on our campus today."
--- Matt Waldron, former Penn State student now studying at Virginia Tech

"I was terrified, you know, running across an open field, not knowing if someone's going to shoot at you."
--- Matt Waldron

"At first I thought it was a joke. The e-mails that the university sent out were very vague. The first one just said something about a gunman on the loose and told us to be on the lookout."
--- Mandie Aunet, sophomore at Virginia Tech

"It is weird and I don't understand why someone would do something like this. There's really nothing around here, and Blacksburg is a pretty laid-back town. It just doesn't make sense."
--- Andrew Simms, senior at Virginia Tech

"I feel bad for freshmen this year. This is the second incident they've had to go through going to Tech. It's a little hard to deal with, I would imagine"
--- Andrew Simms

"There was nothing to do all day except sit around and watch news and see the events unfolding"
--- Paul Campanella, freshman at Virginia Tech
