Don Imus was fired because he made a racial comment, intended to be humorous, that backfired. What he said was horrible. He deserved to be punished. What I don't understand is the stance CBS and NBC have on the NFL and the conduct of its players. This week Titans' Pacman Jones received a suspension of one year. Imus made a racial comment and has apologized for it. Pacman Jones was allegedly involved in a shooting at a strip club. It began when Pacman took $81,000 and threw it at a stripper in an attempt to "make it rain." A melee ensued when Pacman "grabbed her by her hair and slammed her head on the stage." This act was popularized by Fat Joe's rap song "Make it Rain." He has been arrested more than 10 times. Both CBS and NBC show NFL games on TV every week. While they fired Imus, they have done nothing in regard to the NFL's character issues. They will continue to showcase the NFL and its criminals. What Jones has done is worse than the comment by Imus. Why don't NBC and CBS force the NFL to ban Pacman? Do the media networks respond to racism with much more fervor and intensity than repeated criminal offenses? The kids today look up to Pacman and Fat Joe, not Don Imus.
