Police arrest shooting suspect

Collegian Staff Writer

Police are charging two Brooklyn men with attempted homicide for allegedly shooting a woman in the face at her Toftrees Avenue residence in February to obtain heroin.

Kenneth Harrell, 18, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was taken into police custody Saturday in Blair County; police are still looking for Enrique Rodriguez, 18, also of Brooklyn.

Patton Township police allege that the defendants forced their way into Theresa Anzivino's third-floor apartment at about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 7, asking where she put heroin.

According to court documents, after Anzivino told them the heroin was in her bedroom, police allege the men forced her into the bedroom closet, and Harrell shot her point blank in the face with a small caliber handgun. Police said the men took the heroin and fled.

Police said Anzivino, 24, is recovering from the gunshot wound. Anzivino intended to sell the heroin, which her boyfriend had left in her apartment, to bail him out of the Blair County jail, police said. She sought out the assistance of a woman, Jessica Cartwright, to have the heroin bagged and sold in Altoona, which is where she first encountered the defendants, according to court documents.

Cartwright told police that Harrell and Rodriguez decided they wanted to steal the heroin, and according to court documents, she provided them with Anzivino's address. When they arrived at the Toftrees apartment complex, according to court documents, the two men went to Anzivino's apartment and later came running out saying they "got the stuff. Let's get out of here."

According to court documents, Cartwright said she was unaware of any shooting, and when she asked Harrell and Rodriguez about it, they said they didn't trust her and took her cell phone.

Harrell is charged with felony counts of criminal attempt homicide, criminal conspiracy involving robbery, aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license. Misdemeanor charges include simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and theft by unlawful taking or disposition. Rodriguez is expected to be charged with the same.

Patton Township Police Chief John Petrick could not be reached for comment.
