Circumcision has benefits

I must voice both my shock and dismay at the apparent lack of basic knowledge at the Sex Faire. To say circumcision was created during the Victorian era as a defense against the temptations of masturbation is blatantly fallacious. Jews practiced circumcision ever since Abram (later Abraham) made his covenant with God hundreds of years before Britain even became a nation. Though less widely known, ancient Egypt more than 2,000 years before the birth of Christ had murals of circumcisions being done in the Sixth Dynasty. The article also mentions that male genital mutilation was the item of concern. Frankly, there are health benefits to circumcision, such as a decrease in urinary tract infections, though the case that it is more hygienic is, in fact, in dispute.

Female genital mutilation should have been more brought to the forefront as it is here that there are no health benefits. In fact, it can be very dangerous for women and is a serious problem in many areas of the world, most notably Africa. I would hope that in any future "educational" fairs such as this they would focus more on genuine education.
