National champs earn three individual silvers

Collegian Staff Writer

After winning the National Championship on Friday night, members of the Penn State men's gymnastics team weren’t as successful in last night's individual finals.

The Nittany Lions did not earn any individual championships, but they did have three second place finishes. Junior Tommy Ramos finished second in the rings behind Stanford's Alex Schorsch, and tied for second with California's Colin Christ in the high bar behind Oklahoma's Jonathan Horton. Penn State's Casey Sandy also finished second in the pommel horse.

Sandy placed behind California's Tim McNeill, who also won the parallel bars championship.

Oklahoma also had a strong night, with Horton winning the floor exercise and high bar.

Stanford also had another winner in David Sender, who tied for first in the vault with Ohio State’s Pejman Ebrahimi.

The Lions added three more podium placements to the three second place finishes. The top eight in each event make it to the podium, and therefore gain All-America status. Ramos finished sixth in the parallel bars, Nick Virbitsky placed seventh in the floor exercise, and Vladi Klurman tied for seventh in the rings with Oklahoma’s Taqui Abdullah-Simmons, giving Penn State four All-Americans.
