"We have more of a rock 'n' roll edge," Alburn said.
Alburn said Albert React's music was loud, energetic and written for a live setting.
Brad Kiefer, who plays bass for Shade, said his band boasts "a sonic blend of sounds" and "atmospheric indie rock."
He added bands like My Bloody Valentine and Ride were primary influences, but that Shade "doesn't sound anything like them."
Kiefer said Shade plays "an energetic set, spacey and atmospheric." He also said the band likes playing in State College, and that even though all the band members graduated from the rival University of Pittsburgh, "now we all love Penn State."
"There's always a good, consistent audience that comes out to shows and everyone's super nice," Kiefer said. "It's a good stop halfway between Pittsburgh and New York, and we've become good friends with some of the promoters and DJs."
Robert Abel, singer and guitarist for the Picture, listed bands like the Stone Roses, the Smiths and Oasis as influences for his group. The band's other guitarist, Chris Buckle, was actually born and raised in Liverpool, England.
Abel said the band's five members all have very distinct styles and five different collections of music, so when they play music that all five of them together can enjoy, they feel like anyone can get into it.
"It's very listener-friendly," Abel said. "We don't write in a closet. We throw ourselves into it and have a good time with it."
Abel called Penn State a "fun school in a fun town."
"We'd love to play here more often," Abel said. "We'd play every few months if they'd have us."
